Something I remember my grandmother telling me more than once... Probably when I had done something naughty... š
It feels a more appropriate metaphor in our lived experience that the "devil" makes work for idle minds.
If we aren't focused on something beneficial with our minds then it runs off and does it's own thing. And this is often an urgent rooting around for danger. This is what our mind does, searches for things which could cause us harm and brings them to our attention.
If we don't recognise this behaviour it can dominate our lives as worry and anxiety.
It can also manifest as anger or fear depending on where our mind find itself.
In short a whole range of negative experiences will be gifted to us if we don't pay careful attention, to our attention.
If you find yourself not thinking particularly useful thoughts then gently focus your attention on the breath or your feet. Bring attention back to the body and you can interrupt the current thought spiral you are on.
